What Is the Mazda 6e
The Mazda 6e (known as EZ-6 in China) is a mid-size 5-door liftback sedan (D-segment) developed by Mazda in partnership with Changan Automobile on the Changan EPA1 platform. Built at the Nanjing factory in China.
First shown at the Beijing Auto Show (April 2024) as the Mazda EZ-6, it launched in China in October 2024. For Europe, it was renamed Mazda 6e and revealed on January 10, 2025 at the Brussels Motor Show. The first shipment of 600 vehicles departed Shanghai for Belgium in April 2025.
Important: Europe gets only the pure electric (BEV) version. The range-extender (EREV) remains exclusive to the Chinese market.
KODO Design: "Soul of Motion" Goes Electric
Mazda applies its KODO Soul of Motion philosophy to the electric era with the concept "Electrifying Design Crafted to Perfection". Key design elements:
Glowing Signature Wings
Illuminated "wings" around the grille create dynamic animations during charging while indicating battery level.
Frameless Doors
Frameless doors with integrated flush handles for aerodynamic cleanliness and modern appearance.
Active Rear Spoiler
Electrically deployable rear spoiler that automatically rises at 90 km/h (or manually at lower speeds) for stability.
Coupe Silhouette
Low roofline, short-deck coupΓ©-style silhouette with liftback 5-door practicality. Full-width LED bar rear with MAZDA lettering instead of logo.

| Specification | 68.8 kWh (LFP) | 80 kWh (NMC) |
|---|---|---|
| Battery type | CATL-Changan LFP | NMC Lithium-ion |
| Power | 190 kW (258 PS) | 180 kW (245 PS) |
| Torque | 320 Nm | |
| WLTP Range | 478 km | 552 km |
| 0-100 km/h | 7.6 sec | 7.8 sec |
| Top speed | 175 km/h | |
| DC Fast Charging | 200 kW | 95 kW |
| 10β80% DC | 22 minutes | 45 minutes |
| AC Charging | 11 kW (3-phase) | |
| Drive / Platform | RWD / Changan EPA1 | |
Long Range charging caveat: The large NMC 80 kWh battery offers 552 km range, but charges at only 95 kW DC (10β80% in 45 minutes). The base LFP 68.8 kWh charges at 200 kW β more than double the speed. If you frequently take long trips with charging stops, the LFP might be more convenient.
LFP vs NMC: Which Battery to Choose?
68.8 kWh LFP (Base)
- DC charging at 200 kW β 22 min 10β80%
- Routinely charge to 100% without degradation
- Longer cell lifespan
- Power 258 PS (13 PS more)
- Lower purchase price
- 478 km WLTP range
80 kWh NMC (Long Range)
- Maximum range 552 km WLTP
- Ideal for highway long distances
- DC charging only 95 kW β 45 min
- Recommended charging to 80% (NMC)
- Power 245 PS
- Higher purchase price
Our take: For Greek conditions β mostly urban & suburban use, with occasional trips β the LFP 68.8 kWh is the best-value choice. Faster charging, less battery stress, lower cost, and 478 km easily covers AthensβThessaloniki.
Interior & Technology
Inspired by the Japanese concept "Ma" (the beauty of empty space), the interior combines premium feel with cutting-edge tech:
Two trim levels in Europe: Takumi (beige or black leatherette) and Takumi Plus (premium Nappa leather in tan). Interior colors: Chestnut Brown or Egret White. Rear passengers get a separate small touchscreen for climate and front seat adjustment.
Safety: 5-Star Euro NCAP
The Mazda 6e earned the maximum 5-star Euro NCAP rating, as well as 5-star C-NCAP (90.8%).
| Euro NCAP Category | Score |
|---|---|
| Adult protection | 93% |
| Child protection | 93% |
| Pedestrians & cyclists | 74% |
| Safety Assist | 77% |
Standard equipment includes: 9 airbags, i-Activesense ADAS (Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, Emergency Lane Keeping, Rear Collision Warning, Smart Brake Support), M-pixel cameras, millimeter-wave radar, ultrasonic radar, and Occupancy Monitoring System that detects children in rear seats.
Jinba-Ittai: Driving Pleasure
Mazda brings the Jinba-Ittai philosophy (horse and rider as one) β synonymous with the brand's driving enjoyment β to the 6e:
- Rear-wheel drive (RWD) β rare in this price category
- 50:50 weight distribution β perfect balance
- Multi-link suspension rear, MacPherson struts front
- Suspension, hydraulic steering & braking calibrated by Mazda Research Europe (Frankfurt) specifically for European preferences
- 19β³ aluminum wheels with aerodynamic design

Competition in Greece
| Model | Range | Power | DC Fast |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mazda 6e (68.8 kWh) | 478 km | 258 PS | 200 kW |
| Tesla Model 3 LR | ~629 km | 366 PS | 250 kW |
| BYD Seal | ~570 km | 313 PS | 150 kW |
| Hyundai Ioniq 6 LR | ~614 km | 229 PS | 240 kW |
| BMW i4 eDrive40 | ~590 km | 340 PS | 205 kW |
The Mazda 6e doesn't lead in range or power, but stands out in design, build quality, driving feel (RWD/50:50) and expected competitive pricing β the China price starts at just $19,100, promising excellent value in Europe.
Estimated Pricing in Greece
Mazda hasn't announced official European pricing yet (expected by mid-2025-2026). However, based on data:
68.8 kWh Estimate
Before subsidies. The LFP version expected to be more affordable.
80 kWh LR Estimate
Before subsidies. The Long Range will command a premium.
Greece Subsidies: Through the "Kinoume Ilektrika 3" program, you're eligible for subsidies up to β¬8,400 (individuals). Combined with full road tax exemption (Law 4710/2020) and low insurance premiums, the real price drops significantly.

Final Verdict
The Mazda 6e is an exceptionally attractive proposition for those seeking a premium electric sedan without German pricing. The KODO design is top-tier, the rear-wheel drive with 50:50 distribution promises sports car handling, and the LFP battery offers rapid 200 kW charging without longevity stress.
If Mazda prices the 6e correctly in Greece β and signs point to competitive pricing β it'll be a breakthrough in electric sedans. Only reservations: the slow charging of the NMC Long Range and small trunk space. Otherwise, Mazda reminds us why it's a cult brand: design, driving, feel.
