🎉 Co-Op & Party Games
Cooperative and party games form the backbone of VR multiplayer. You're not competing against your friends here — you're working together (or at least trying not to get each other killed). This category includes some of the most popular and accessible VR titles on the market.
Rec Room
The ultimate free-to-play social VR platform. Developed by Rec Room Inc. in Seattle since 2016, it's available on Quest, PCVR, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and even mobile. It features paintball, laser tag, co-op quests, and thousands of user-generated rooms. CNET's Dan Ackerman called it “VR's killer app.” The company was valued at $3.5 billion in December 2021.
Among Us VR
The VR adaptation of the cult social deduction hit, developed by Schell Games and Innersloth. Released November 2022 for Quest 2 and SteamVR, later for PS5/PSVR2. With proximity voice chat, 10-player lobbies, and a Metacritic score of 82, it sold over one million copies by January 2023. It won the Webby Award 2023 for Best Social Gaming Experience and was rebranded to Among Us 3D in February 2025 with a PC port.
Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale
A chaotic co-op cooking game from Resolution Games. Up to 4 players prepare sandwiches for alien customers, tossing ingredients back and forth. Frantic, hilarious, and perfect for groups looking for light-hearted multiplayer fun. Available on Quest and PCVR.
Demeo
A tabletop RPG experience in VR by Resolution Games. Four players sit around a virtual table, exploring dungeons and fighting monsters in turn-based combat. Available on Quest, PCVR, and PSVR2 with cross-play. It's like playing Dungeons & Dragons, except you watch the miniatures come alive before your eyes.
🔫 Competitive Shooters
If you're after adrenaline, VR shooters turn every encounter into a physical experience: you actually duck behind cover, aim with your own hands, and feel your heart pounding. This category has exploded in recent years, with titles covering every style — from tactical firefights to post-apocalyptic co-op.
Pavlov VR reigns as the undisputed king of tactical VR shooters. With Counter-Strike-inspired gameplay, it offers competitive 5v5 matches, a variety of game modes (Search & Destroy, TDM, Gun Game), and a massive community modding scene with recreated classic maps. Available on Quest (as Pavlov Shack) and PCVR, it's an absolute must-have for any VR gamer.
After the Fall by Vertigo Games brings the Left 4 Dead formula into VR. Four players face hordes of “Snowbreed” — creatures spawned by a global ice apocalypse — across a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles. With cross-play between Quest, PCVR, and PSVR2, it's one of the most polished co-op shooters in VR.
Population: ONE by BigBox VR introduced battle royale to VR with a unique twist: players climb buildings, fly with wingsuits, and fight in squads of three. With up to 24 players per match and exceptionally smooth Quest gameplay, it's the go-to choice for anyone craving a BR experience in virtual reality.
Contractors VR by Caveman Studio delivers a military FPS with 5v5 multiplayer, realistic gunplay, and extensive mod support. The community has built maps inspired by Call of Duty, Halo, and numerous classic shooters. Runs on both Quest and PCVR.
Arizona Sunshine 2 by Vertigo Games is the sequel to the pioneering VR zombie shooter. Released in December 2023 for PCVR, PSVR2, and Quest 3, it features a two-player co-op campaign and a loyal canine companion named Buddy. With improved graphics, melee combat, and crafting, it raises the bar for co-op VR shooters.
⛳ Sports & Casual
You don't need to be shooting zombies to have a good time in VR. Casual and sports multiplayer games are perfect for introductory sessions or relaxed evenings with friends. Many of them cause virtually no motion sickness, making them ideal for VR newcomers.
Walkabout Mini Golf
Mighty Coconut created what might be the most relaxing VR multiplayer experience. Over 20 themed courses — from ancient pyramids to mad scientist labs. With precise putting physics and cross-play between Quest and PCVR, it's perfect for groups of any age and experience level.
Eleven Table Tennis
The most realistic ping-pong simulation in VR. The ball physics are so accurate that actual athletes use it for training. Features online 1v1 ranked matches, tournaments, and casual games. Available on Quest and PCVR.
Blaston
A 1v1 bullet-dodging dueling game by Resolution Games. Two players stand face-to-face, exchanging fire with a variety of weapons while dodging projectiles in slow motion. Quick rounds, addictive gameplay, minimal space requirements. Quest and PCVR.
Nock
Rocket League meets archery in VR. Two teams battle in a zero-gravity arena, shooting a ball into the goal with bows. Fast-paced, competitive, and hilarious. Ranked multiplayer, seasons, and cosmetics. Quest exclusive.
🌍 Ghost Hunting & MMO
Virtual reality amplifies fear — and co-op horror games exploit that to its fullest. Meanwhile, VR MMOs aim to build entire worlds for hundreds of simultaneous players.
Phasmophobia by Kinetic Games became a viral phenomenon from the moment it hit Early Access in September 2020. Up to 4 players take on the role of ghost hunters, using EMF detectors, UV lights, Spirit Boxes, and other equipment to identify the type of ghost haunting various locations. The game recognizes your voice — if you speak, the ghost will hear you. It won Best Debut Game at The Game Awards 2020 and Best Debut Developer at the GDC Awards 2021. By February 2025, total sales surpassed 22 million copies, and Blumhouse announced a film adaptation. The game features 27 ghost types with unique behaviors and custom difficulty settings. VR is supported on PC via SteamVR.
Zenith: The Last City by Ramen VR is an ambitious VR MMORPG. With classes (Blade Master, Essence Mage), crafting, dungeons, and PvP zones, it attempts to bring the classic MMO formula into VR. Available on Quest, PCVR, and PSVR2 with cross-play, it's currently the largest MMO experience in VR, despite criticism of limited endgame content.

"Rec Room has become the killer app for VR — the game that makes you actually want to put on a headset."
💡 Tips for VR Multiplayer
Your multiplayer VR experience depends heavily on your connection. A stable 5GHz Wi-Fi — or better yet, a Wi-Fi 6E router — is essential for smooth online gaming. If you notice lag or stuttering, try a dedicated 5GHz band or an Ethernet adapter for your Quest via a USB-C hub.
Before jumping into a multiplayer session, make sure your friends know the basic VR controls. Nothing ruins a group session faster than a player who can't figure out how to move. Casual games like Walkabout Mini Golf, Rec Room, and Cook-Out are ideal for onboarding newcomers. Save the hardcore shooters and horror games for after everyone's comfortable.
Finally, take full advantage of cross-play capabilities. Many of these games — Rec Room, After the Fall, Demeo, Phasmophobia (in flat + VR mode) — allow players on different platforms to play together. Not everyone needs the same headset. This makes VR hangouts more accessible than ever, especially now that platforms like Meta Quest 3S and Pico 4 Ultra bring the entry cost below $300.
